Education - Beef CRC - Beef Genetic Technologies
The Beef CRC is committed to developing a more skilled beef industry workforce.Industry and educational bodies perceive there is a real need to co-ordinate, compile and deliver relevant CRC material to post-graduate and undergraduate students as well as industry. There is a shortfall of tertiary trained students in all sectors of the beef industry including the basic sciences as well as the sciences required for effective innovation, commercialisation and adoption of beef industry outcomes. The Beef CRC is working to train students in a range of related science disciplines in an attempt to partially rectify this shortfall. CRC outputs and outcomes will be integrated into a range of academic and vocational courses in order to underpin new genetic technologies and accelerated adoption relevant to the beef industry. Project material is being provided by CRC research staff to develop new learning opportunities for industry. This includes the development of education material on the use of genetic techniques for breeding and selection. Development of this material should raise industry awareness about the use of marker-assisted EBVs and thus the adoption of gene markers once they are released. |
