| What is the Feeder Steer School? | ||||
| The Feeder Steer School is an annual event hosted by New South Wales Department of Industry and Investment with participation from the Beef CRC. The school gives participants a real insight into the latest research aimed at producing better and more efficient cattle. The practical nature of the feeder steer school provides participants with strategies to maximise opportunities at all stages of the supply chain. Participants get ‘hands-on’ experience in assessing a steer’s potential for feedlot performance and suitability for different markets. | ||||

| Commercial cattle breeders, steer traders and lot-feeders should attend the Feeder Steer School. If you want to maximise the profits you make from supplying this market, then this school is for you. | ||||
| What sort of things will I learn at the Feeder Steer School? | ||||
| The Feeder Steer School is divided into three main sections. Meeting the Market, Producing efficient Feeder Steers and Sire Selection, principles and practice. You will hear from some of the industry's leading figures including the President of the Australian Lot Feeders Association Jim Cudmore who will give an overview and future directions for the industry. Participants will also learn more about the specifications for the Feeder steer market. Day 2 focuses on growth, compensatory effects and development of feeder steers, HGPs and how to minimise sickness. Day 3 will provide you with an introduction to using EBVs and Selection Indexes to assist in bull buying as well as using DNA information in bull selection. Download the full program. | ||||

| How much does it cost to attend the Feeder Steer School? | ||||
| $850 per person (excludes accommodation). The registration** cost includes: Rangers Valley Feedlot tour; Formal presentations and livestock assessments on Days 2, 3 & 4; Evening meals, including a formal dinner on Day 2. | ||||
| ** Primary producers are eligible to be reimbursed the Registration costs of the Feeder Steer School under the Federal Government’s FarmReady program. FarmReady is a federal government program that allows bona fide primary producers to be reimbursed the training and accommodation costs associated with approved courses. All information is available at www.FarmReady.gov.au It is important that delegates read the eligibility guidelines and fill out and lodge an “Application form for FarmReady reimbursement grant” prior to the final registration date as pre-approval is required for course reimbursement. | Is there accommodation available? | ||||
| Accommodation is available at Duval College, located on the campus of the University of New England. It provides single study bedrooms with tea/coffee making facilities and shared bathrooms. Accommodation for additional nights is available at the college. Accommodation costs $66 per person/night. | ||||
