Governing Board - Beef CRC - Beef Genetic Technologies

In governing the Company, the Directors act in the best interests of the Company as a whole.

The Board comprises an independent beef industry Chairman, an independent Deputy Chairman, the CEO and 6 non-executive Directors appointed on the basis of the skills they can contribute to the Board.

Board members, including the Chairman and CEO, are directly elected by the Participants.

The planned mix of skills on the Board is such that at least 2 Directors are highly experienced in R&D management, at least 2 Directors are highly experienced in beef industry issues and the remainder of Directors have specialist skills required by the Company (e.g. financial, legal, commercialisation etc).

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is an ex-officio member of the Board.




Dr Guy Fitzhardinge, Chairman
Dr Fitzhardinge is a commercial cattle producer from NSW, a past member of the Boards of Meat Research Corporation and Meat and Livestock Australia. He has postgraduate training in extension and agricultural economics and is committed to R&D and commercialisation of results.

Dr Keith Steele, Deputy Chairman
Dr Steele is a business advisor with beef R&D management experience, genomics knowledge and corporate governance and finance skills. He has IP commercialisation experience in Australia and New Zealand and is a current or former Director of 16 technology companies.

Mr Rob Backus, non-executive Director
Mr Backus brings northern beef sector and feedlot expertise and knowledge of the industry relevance of genomics to the Board. Mr Backus has had a close personal involvement in the Beef CRC since 1992, was a member of the Beef CRC Advisory Committee since 1999 and a member of the third term Renewal Committee 2003-2005.

Mrs Robyn Clubb, non-executive Director
Mrs Clubb has extensive financial, management and accounting experience as well as a strong rural background and successful operator of a significant cattle enterprise in southern NSW. Mrs Clubb is also a Director of Landcare, the Rice Marketing Board, the Royal Agricultural Society of NSW and Trustee of the Farrer Memorial Trust.

Dr Jay Hetzel, non-executive Director
Dr Hetzel has worked for more than 25 years in cattle genetics and genomics research and commercialisation. He combines expertise in R&D and Intellectual Property (IP) management and commercialisation with knowledge of CRCs.

Dr Greg Robbins, non-executive Director
Dr Robbins is General Manager of Animal Science for the Queensland Department of Primary Industries and Fisheries (QDPI&F) and former Director of the Queensland Beef Industry Institute. With more than 20 years of experience Greg has a strong understanding of the northern beef industry.

Mrs Emma Robinson, non-executive Director
Mrs Robinson is a large successful beef producer in central Queensland and has extensive beef enterprise technology extension experience, having worked for QDPI&F for seven years. She is formally a Director of AgForce Cattle and a Councillor of the Charters Towers District Health Council and is currently a Councillor of the Regional Women’s Advisory Council and Chair of the Charters Towers Branch of AgForce Qld.

Mr Richard Rains, non-executive Director
Mr Richard Rains is the Chief Executive Officer of Sanger Australia Pty Ltd, an international meat trading business. Sanger Australia represents a number of abattoirs in Australia, marketing their meat to both domestic and export markets.






Dr Heather Burrow, Chief Executive OfficerDr Burrow has more than 28 years quantitative genetics R&D experience, specializing in genetic improvement of tropically adapted beef cattle. She has 12 years management experience in the Beef CRC with 5 years as Deputy CEO. She is committed to delivery of results to industry.
Mr Neil Scholes-Robertson, company secretaryMr Scholes-Robertson holds a Bachelor of Business and qualified as a Chartered Accountant. He has extensive financial and accounting experience in both Chartered Accounting and corporate organisations.
