Local producers interested in improving the profitability of their beef businesses are invited to join a Beef Profit Partnership (BPP) group starting up in the Gunnedah, Tamworth and Quirindi region.

BPPs are a system of partnerships with beef businesses, value chains and the broader Australian beef industry established by the Beef CRC. BPPs involve large and small beef enterprises based in the same region.

“The aim of BPPs is to accelerate improvements, innovations and adoption for sustainable impact on profit and growth,” Beef CRC CEO Dr Heather Burrow said.

The new North West region will include Murray Grey producers and follows from the establishment of a similar group in the Darling Downs region.

The first group information meeting for the North West regional will be hosted by Beef CRC and held at Gunnedah RSL Club on Sunday 30 May at 2pm. Future meetings will rotate around the region depending on where members live. Producers from large and small enterprises are invited to participate and the group will have the support of specialist expertise to guide and assist members.

The initial target of Beef Profit Partnership members is to achieve an additional five percent improvement in annual business profit within two years. Many groups achieve more.

North West Beef Profit Partnership Coordinator Kate James says that joining a BPP is a great opportunity for local cattle producers to improve their businesses together.

“It is more than just a benchmarking group,” Mrs James said. “The group can determine their own development agenda and access experts in whatever field the group decides will best improve their businesses.

Mrs James said if the local group needed an agronomist, economist, financial or marketing expert then Beef CRC will provide a suitable professional to address the group’s questions.

“It is great to be part of a group where you can get professional help to analyze your business and moral support to implement your actions,” Mrs James said. “We all share the results so people can learn from each other.”

Beef Profit Partnerships have already been formed throughout Australia and New Zealand. The BPP teams meet on a regular basis to focus on opportunities to improve profit and take action to implement some of these opportunities in their businesses. Members track changes in the key drivers of profit (costs, price and throughput) and for the productivity indicators most relevant to their own business improvement – for example, growth rate, reproduction rate and market compliance.

Those interested in joining the Beef Profit Partnership should be committed to improving the profitability of their beef businesses.
